One of the best gifts you can give your dog – young or old – is an ear massage. Most dogs love to have their ears massaged, but some have sensitive ears so be very gentle when you begin.

The dog’s ears contain 13 different muscles that are used for lifting and moving the ear in all the ways a dog can. So just like any muscle, there can be tightness and tension there just waiting to be massaged out!

First of all just hold your dog’s head and muzzle with one hand and begin to rub around the ears with the other hand. As I mentioned, be gentle in case he has any sensitivity. Wait until he begins to relax to proceed.

Hold the ear with your fingers on the outside of the ear and your thumb on the inside of the ear at the base. Starting at the base, gently tug as you work your way up the ear to the tip. Apply pressure to the tip for about 5 seconds and then repeat the procedure.

Lindsay & Dan show you how to clean your dog’s ears. If your pet has ear problems or needs ear medications this may help you.
